Preparing School Companions to support children and schools

Following the World Children's Day celebration on 20 November, Vazhai will hold a two-day training programme for newly inducted School Companions on 21 and 22 November 2026. The training will help them understand the situations children face, respond to children's needs, support each school's goals, and connect their daily work with Vazhai's objectives.

What the training will focus on

Practical learning for the role

Understand children's situationsBuild awareness of the circumstances children experience and the needs they bring to school.
Assist children with their needsConsider how School Companions can offer appropriate day-to-day support to each child.
Help schools meet their goalsConnect the companion's work with the priorities and goals of each school.
Support Vazhai's objectivesUnderstand how the role contributes to Vazhai's wider purpose and approach.

BHUMI trainers are generously contributing multiple sessions to the programme, and Vazhai is grateful for their support. Vazhai volunteer-trainers are also preparing sessions to share their experience and help the new School Companions get ready for their work.
