Who We Are
VAZHAI was founded in April 2005 in Chennai by first-generation graduates from Presidency College who knew what it cost to be the first in a family to reach higher education — and chose to lower that cost for everyone who came after.
"We were first-generation graduates ourselves. We knew the confusion, the lack of guidance, the moments where you almost gave up. We started Vazhai so other children wouldn't have to go through that alone."

🌿
Vazhai means banana tree in Tamil — it gives completely and regenerates on its own.
Every part of the banana tree serves a purpose. One child who gets an education passes that possibility to the next generation — in Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Villupuram, and beyond. We build literacy, confidence, career awareness, and community trust — because a child needs all of it to thrive.
Our Three Principles
I
Generational Growth
One child's education passes to the next. We build that cycle, school by school.
II
Complete Nourishment
Literacy, confidence, career awareness, and community trust — a child needs all of it.
III
Built to Last
A permanent commitment to rural education equity — one framework, many schools, sustained presence.
"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."
Education is not a gift you give once — it is a skill that compounds across a lifetime. That is the foundation Vazhai is built on: not charity, but capability. Not one meal, but the knowledge to never go hungry again.
